Weddings, funerals, choral evensongs, special services and recitals — from a quiet Sunday mass at a village church to a full cathedral occasion. I'll meet you (or your vicar, or the funeral director) to talk through music, suggest pieces that suit the day, and turn up early enough to register the instrument properly. No surprises, no fuss.

Soloist and Accompanist

Steady hands behind the soloist — or front and centre.

Twenty years of accompanying exam candidates, festival entrants and concert soloists on organ and piano, plus a busy recital diary of my own. Sympathetic to nerves, alert to tempo, and well used to sight-reading the unexpected. Available for the exams of all major boards , festivals across the south west, and choral society or chamber concerts.

Organ and piano lessons from absolute beginner through to diploma, in person around Taunton or online to your own console. No instrument at home? I can arrange access to a church organ to practise on. Alongside lessons I tutor GCSE and A Level Music — listening, harmony, composition, set works and exam technique — for whole courses or single topics that have come unstuck.

From set works to UCAS — the music degree route, demystified.

Over twenty years inside independent-school music departments, sixteen of them as Director of Music, means I know what GCSE and A Level examiners are actually looking for — and where candidates usually lose the marks they shouldn't. I can tutor on all elements of specifications, plus theory to Grade 8, university and conservatoire application support, and one-off sessions on a single set work or coursework piece that's gone sideways.
